We are easily distracted away from the important things. We are easily led away from the things that we were created for. We were made to worship God and have fellowship with him. We were made to sing God's praises and live in covenant with him. We were created in God's image so that we could be God's image. When you turn aside after other Gods, serving mammon, or yourself, you are denying the most fundamental thing about yourself. You are made in the image of mammon, as if you are just another commodity valued according to your wealth, but we become like what we worship, and so we are distracted, we fall into ditches, we put the things from the periphery into the center and tumble over anytime there is any change in momentum in our life.
So here is the exhortation. ?If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. (2) Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (3) For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God? (Col 3:1-3). Life is in Christ. Looking for life anywhere else is idolatry and you will find death there. Don?t get distracted from looking to Christ. At the center of everything is Christ, the risen Lord, seated in glory at the right hand of the Father. Jesus is your king. Put aside everything that hinders you from following him. Put to death your sin. Put to death you flesh. And follow after Christ. Leave it aside now, leave it at the cross, where Jesus nailed it. Leave aside your sin and come to Jesus.
